Payload Capacity

Payload capacity is the maximum combined weight of the driver, passengers, and cargo that the tricycle can safely carry. The tricycle’s own weight is not included.

Keep in mind:

• Add up the weight of the heaviest driver, all passengers, and your typical cargo.
• Include a 20–30% safety margin to preserve acceleration, range, and battery life.
• Exceeding the payload rating can cause motor overheating, rapid battery drain, and premature frame wear.

Example: if you carry a 90 kg driver + 100 kg cargo = 190 kg, choose a tricycle with a payload rating of at least 230–250 kg.

Electric Tricycle Type

Select the intended use – this determines the design, load capacity and seating.

• Classic Tricycle — a standard model for one or two people with a small trunk. For everyday city rides and light deliveries.
• Cargo Tricycle — reinforced frame and platform or body for transporting goods. Suitable for business, delivery, utility work.
• Passenger Tricycle — designed for 3–6 passengers, often with a roof and seats. Used as a rickshaw, resort transport, shuttle.
• Transformer / Universal Tricycle — a modular platform that allows switching bodies (cargo ↔ passenger) for different tasks.
• Mobility Scooter — a specialised tricycle for people with reduced mobility, often with a chair, armrests, and low step-through.

NOMINAL motor power!

Motor power: key factors

• Gross vehicle weight (tricycle + driver + passengers/cargo). The heavier the load, the more power you need for starting, accelerating, and climbing.
• Speed — as speed increases, aerodynamic drag rises sharply and consumes more energy.
• Slope — on a 10% grade (100 metres forward, you rise 10 metres above the starting point) you may need 2–3 times more power than on flat ground.
• Drivetrain efficiency (hub motors ~0.85; reduction gear drive ~0.9). Some energy is always lost in the transmission.
• Battery type & voltage — high‑voltage systems (60V, 72V+) reduce operating currents and heat when power exceeds 2000 W.

Battery type (chemistry)

• Li-Ion (Lithium-ion) — the most common type, good balance of price, weight and capacity. Fits most city tricycles.
• LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) — exceptional lifespan (2000+ cycles), maximum safety, stable power. Ideal for cargo and passenger tricycles, heavy-duty use.
• Graphene — enhanced Li-Ion with faster charging and slightly higher energy density. Found in premium models.
• AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) — sealed lead-acid battery with fiberglass separator. Budget-friendly but heavy; for short-range use.
• Gel — sealed lead-acid battery with gel electrolyte. Better deep-discharge tolerance than AGM, but still heavy.

Battery Voltage, V

Select the nominal voltage of the battery pack. Voltage determines compatibility with the motor and controller, and affects speed, torque, and range.

How to read the labels:

• Plain values (36V, 48V, 60V, etc.) are standard nominal voltages for lithium-ion (Li-Ion) and lead-acid batteries.
• Values marked 12S, 16S, 20S, etc. refer to lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. The number S is the number of cells connected in series (each cell has a nominal voltage of 3.2V). Example: 12S × 3.2V = 38.4V.

This parameter is intended for electric trikes (three-wheeled electric scooters) and describes the type of body or platform.

• Flatbed platform — an open platform with drop‑side or fixed sides, suitable for transporting bulky loads.
• Drop‑side body — the sides fold down, making it easier to load and unload bulk or piece goods.
• Tipper body — equipped with a hydraulic lift, allowing the load to be discharged automatically.
• Covered cargo box / container — a closed or semi‑closed box that protects the load from rain, dust, wind, and prying eyes.
• Van body (enclosed box) — a fully enclosed body for transporting goods that are sensitive to weather and dirt.
• Passenger body (multi‑seat) — a body with seats designed to carry passengers.
• Food truck / street vending body — an equipped workspace for preparing and selling food and beverages (coffee, hot dogs, etc.).
• Universal platform (modular) — allows interchangeable modules (van, passenger compartment, flatbed platform, etc.) depending on the current task.
